The garden
is a beautiful feature of Oatcake Cottage. It's private and enclosed with absolutely stunning views over
the historic stoned slabbed roofs of Castleton and it is difficult to see a building less than two hundred years old. Its
light and sunny position makes it a place to relax after a day’s walk with a glass of wine on one of the terraces while
you gaze over the unrivalled views over the medieval village across to the steep and craggy, one in five, ascent of Winnats
Pass and the hills of Mam Tor and Losehill where one of the battles in Roman times took place....
...all
of the while, hearing the soothing chimes of St. Edmund's church clock - a twelfth century Norman building. At the summit
of the garden is an original Wendy House completing the picturesque aspect of the garden, beyond which is wild, open countryside.
The garden is also a bird watcher’s paradise, with jackdaws and hawks living in the cliffs below Peverel
castle, which was built by the son of William the Conqueror.
